Pre-Plan

My pre-plan is coming along a little slower than I anticipated.  However, I am excited about incorporating a few of the suggestions shared by the Apple trainer, Paul, last week.  Paul, too, suggested Storykit as a tool to use in showcasing the students' book reviews.  He also suggested the Sock Puppet app.  I have used it with my niece.  However, I had not thought of using it for the book reviews.  This would be great tool to use with the students who enjoy role-playing.  Storyrobe was also suggested.  He recommended purchasing it for 4 of the iPod Touches  or even my iPad and using it as a center; rotating students through to complete their project.

I also located Story Line, an app which could be used  a storyboard to prepare for the book review.  Each student would add his/her own part and then another student could illustrate it.  I am still exploring how to use it.  But, it looks like it would be a good tool.  There are several other apps I came across to use to create their storyboard.

Kids' Vid is a site that shares how to create the video.  This will be a source for students to view if they wish to create an iMovie or Slideshow to showcase their book review.

  1. I like reading your posts because you often mention apps I've never heard of before. My pre-plan is also moving along at a snail's pace. If only I had one more weekend to tackle it. I think creating an iMovie or Slideshow would be a good, mandatory project piece. For grading purposes, tell them to keep it at 90 seconds or so...even 60. How many are you assessing? Good luck with positive, forward movement!

  2. Linda, it is great to see that you are exploring various tools for your project. All of them sounds interesting! I would suggest to consider if the tool is age-appropriate as well as cost-effective. Of course, it should promote students' higher-level thinking! As far as book reviews are concerned, I would recommend to look for several comic strip creator tools such as Comic Creator (http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/student-interactives/comic-creator-30021.html).

  3. Linda, you already know that I <3 Storykit. I think it is super-easy, and it's FREE. You know I <3 free apps, too!

Could this be something where the kids choose the format of their project/presentation? Maybe give them their choice? It would require creating a strong and detailed rubric, but I think that you could guide them through what you want them to do, especially since you have a student teacher right now. just something to keep in mind!
